Pazo de Illobre

Pazo de Illobre

Manorial residence of medieval origin in Pontellas, renovated in the 20th century, with gardens and a tradition linked to the Counts of Taboada.

It is located in the place known as A Angustia, in the parish of Pontellas. At the beginning of the 20th century it was rebuilt, and two crenellated towers were added. It serves as the summer residence of the Counts of Taboada. The origins of the house lie in the Tower of Illobre, which already existed in the 15th century. One of Betanzos’ most distinguished figures, Francisco Aguiar y Seijas, the first Archbishop of Mexico, was born here. The property also features noteworthy gardens and areas dedicated to organic farming.
