The fountain is made of cement and has an octagonal plan. It was created by local artists commissioned by Don Juan García Naveira. It is a copy of a similar fountain located in Paris (the Louvois Fountain, built in 1884 by the sculptor Klagmann and situated at the entrance to the National Library). It takes its name from the four classically styled female figures on its central shaft, representing the seasons of the year. A large cup-shaped basin collects the water, which is then distributed through several spouts topped with masks.
