Statue of Charity

Statue of Charity

Contemporary sculpture “Charity”, a reinterpretation of Roman Charity, symbolising solidarity and the philanthropic legacy of the García Naveira brothers.

“The Charity” was created by an Italian artist and is a free interpretation of Benito Crespi’s painting Roman Charity. The sculpture depicts a man condemned to die of starvation, with his hands bound, while his daughter (and mother) takes advantage of her visits to the prison to breastfeed him and thus keep him alive. The woman holds a telephone handset through which she speaks. In the monument to the García Naveira brothers, Juan receives the call, while Jesús points to the asylum they created, where they put charity into practice.
